Midfielder glad manager’s job is safe

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was the key behind James Milner securing a free-transfer to Anfield from Manchester City this Summer.

The England international is set to join the Merseyside club on a free transfer at the beginning of July, after his contract at the Etihad officially expires.

City Offered Mega-Deal

City were desperate to try and keep the versatile star, especially because of his homegrown status, and they even offered him around ÂŁ165k-a-week to stay on at the club.

However, the 29-year-old admitted that it wasn’t the money he wanted, it was assurance of regular playing time and he felt he would get that at Liverpool more so than at City.

Rodgers Assurance

According to reports, Milner held long discussions with Rodgers before agreeing to the move and also wanted to know whether the managers job was safe before agreeing to the switch.

Rodgers was assured of his job earlier this week despite a poor 2014/2015 campaign, and it’s understood that Milner then decided to sign after being told about the managerial status.

Milner will join up with his new team-mates in July and is expected to replace Steven Gerrard in the heart of the midfield alongside Jordan Henderson.

Versatility Milner

However, due to his versatility, Milner can also play at right-back, down the wing and also up front if need be.

Milner is thought to be excited at the prospect of working with Rodgers and also being a first-team regular.
