Alexander Buttner is set to discuss a new deal with Premier League champions Manchester United. The full back moved to Old Trafford from Vitesse last summer signing a five year contract but has struggled to establish himself in the first team.

Patrice Evra has maintained the first team spot at left back and David Moyes also tried to sign Leighton Baines from Everton during the summer window. He failed in that bid and also tried to sign Fabio Coentrao from Real Madrid on deadline day but it fell through.

Despite the lack of first team football the Dutchman has revealed that he is set to hold contract talks with the club.

“Last year I have had a good season and the club have seen that,” Buttner is quoted as saying in De Telegraaf. “The club now want to talk about a new deal. That shows a lot of appreciation.”

A loan move to Besiktas was on the cards but fell through, Buttner has revealed he was dissapointed it didn’t go through but he is determined to push for first team football under new boss David Moyes.

“It was a pity that (the loan to Besiktas) fell through. With an eye on the World Cup next year in Brazil I wanted to play games.

“Last Wednesday I had a good meeting with our manager David Moyes. He told me that I will play enough this year at Manchester United.

“He absolutely didn’t want to let me go. He sees me as a full United player.”
