The centre-back has impressed in the Bundesliga this season

Arsenal are expected to bolster their squad this summer after a poor Premier League campaign this season. They are currently 6th in the Premier League and will miss the Champions League next season, after getting eliminated from Europa League by Atletico Madrid on Thursday.

The Gunners are planning a defensive overhaul as the club have lost faith in their back line and could sign another young defender in the summer transfer window.

Turkey international Caglar Soyuncu is set to join Arsenal this summer according to Altinordu president Seyit Mehmet Ozkan, his former club. The 22-year-old joined Freiburg from Altinordu in 2016 for €2.65 million but included a sell-on clause in the deal.

The centre-back has impressed in the Bundesliga this season and has been particularly praised for his ability on the ball. He has made 25 appearances for the club this season and scored 1 goal.

Ozkan has claimed that the Gunners have contacted him for information about Soyuncu and believes they are leading the race to sign him, beating the competition from Bayern Munich who are also interested in signing him.

“Caglar Soyuncu set to join Arsenal,” Ozkan confirmed at the International Football Economic Forum.

“Arsenal demanded his youth information from us. We’ll earn from him, if he joins Arsenal. Bayern Munich wants him too, but he’s on the way to the Premier League.”
