A disappointing night for Championship sides as the Premier League sides all make it through to the next round.

Manchester City 4-1 Hull

High flying Hull were looking to cause the biggest upset of the night as they travelled to the Etihad.  Manchester stood in their way and firmly showed their class netting 4 times to knock Hull out. Bony opened the scoring on the 12th minute before late goals from Iheanacho and De Bruyne. Hull pulled one back right at the death through Robertson.

Middlesbrough 0-2 Everton

Another Premier League hopeful in the shape of Middlesborough welcomed Everton to The Riverside. Everton, like Manchster City showed their quality and eased into the second round with goals with Deolofeu and Lukaku.

Stoke City vs Sheffield Wednesday

Giant killers Sheffield Wednesday were looking to repeat the heroics of the last round where they knocked out Arsenal. The Owls failed to turn it on at Stoke on the toughest places to visit on a cold rainy night. Goal from Afellay and Bardlsey enabled  The Potters to proceed to the next round.
