A plane carrying Cardiff City striker Emiliano Sala has gone missing, according to reports.
The striker became the record signing of the Wales club as they paid £18m to French club Nantes to acquire his service. Sala was returning back to Cardiff from Nantes when the plane went missing from the radar.
The small aircraft which had two people on board disappeared near the Casquests lighthouse. Search and rescue operations are in full swing and two helicopters have been launched to oversee the operations.
Cardiff City issued a statement expressing their concern : We are very concerned by the latest news that a light aircraft lost contact over the Channel last night.
“We are awaiting confirmation before we can say anything further.
“We are very concerned for the safety of Emiliano Sala.”
Guernsey Police said: “A search and rescue operation is currently underway off the north of Alderney after a light aircraft disappeared from radar several hours ago.
“Two helicopters alongside the Guernsey and Alderney lifeboats are searching for it.”
Sala has been amongst goals for the Ligue 1 side this season and Cardiff badly needed some reinforcements to bolster their attack which lacked sharpness since the start of the season.
