Full-back won’t seek exit despite no Champions League football

Chelsea left-back Cesar Azpilicueta has confirmed he won’t be pushing for an exit from the club despite the lack of Champions League football next season.

The Blues look set to miss out on the competition for next season, unless they manage to win it this year, as a top-four finish in the Premier League looks out of reach despite their recent turn of form.

Chelsea are unbeaten in the league since Guus Hiddink has taken over, but their catastrophic start under Jose Mourinho has cost them dearly and it now looks like they will be out of next year’s Champions League.

If they do win it this year, they will have to overturn a 2-1 deficit against Paris Saint-Germain, but even if they don’t make next year’s competition, they won’t be losing Azpilicueta.

Azpilicueta Happy at Chelsea

‘I count on staying another few years at Chelsea,’ said the 26-year-old.

‘I’m very happy there – I’m not thinking about leaving the club. I’m only thinking about the Blues.

‘Marseille made a big impact and gave me the chance to discover Europe. I felt very good over there but if I have to leave it would be for a club where I could develop even more than at Chelsea.’
