Cesc Fabregas aims high this season

Cesc Fabregas has rubbed salt in Arsenal fans’ wounds by claiming that their love for him won’t stop Chelsea winning silverware this season.

Fabregas moved to Chelsea in the summer after Arsene Wenger turned down his first option to re-sign the player.

The former Barcelona man put in a typically efficient performance to help his team to a 2-0 victory, including one raking crossfield pass which resulted in Diego Costa grabbing the second goal.

Speaking after Sunday’s game, the Spanish midfielder said that the jeers he received from his former club’s supporters didn’t affect him, and that he will always hold them in high esteem.

“I have huge respect for Arsenal. They gave me everything when I was little. Without them (Arsenal fans) I know I wouldn’t be here. I wouldn’t have won what I’ve won. I respect the fans, I take it in a positive way. I know they love me. I’ve always said it, I’m not scared and they will be in my heart forever but this is football and I’m in this fantastic football club now.”

Turning his attention to his current club, Fabregas was quick to praise the staff and the setup. “I’m playing with great players, with a great coach and with great fans and I want to win everything.”

“I’m hungry. I really want to do well for this club and I hope to make it in the future.”

The result saw Chelsea extend their lead at the top of the league to five points, while Arsenal dropped down to eighth place.
