Sky Bet Championship Player of the Year shortlist
The Football League have today announced the shortlist for this years Sky Bet Championship Player of the Year. The nominees for the award are, Patrick Bamford (Middlesbrough), Troy Deeney (Watford) and Daryl Murphy (Ipswich Town).

Patrick Bamford (Middlesbrough)
This is Bamford’s second nomination for an end of season award after already receiving a nomination for FL Young Player of the Year. The striker is well known as a prolific goalscorer and his 17 league goals this year is further evidence of this. The 21-year-old has played a vital part in Middlesbrough’s season and will be hoping his side can take that final step and secure a top two spot. This England U-21 international one of the most highly-regarded young players around.
Troy Deeney (Watford)
After hitting 25 goals last season, Deeney has had another successful season this time around, reaching the 20-goal mark for the third year in a row. The 26-year old bagged a hat-trick away at Fulham, then scored in six consecutive game throughout February and March. His side will be hoping they can go one step better than last season’s Play-Off defeat and finish in the top two, Deeney will play a crucial part in the last few weeks.
Daryl Murphy (Ipswich Town)
Murphy is this season top goalscorer in the Championship, becoming his sides first player to score 20 in one season since Darren Bent ten years ago. The striker has been vital in Ipswich’s impressive season under Mick McCarthy, and whilst he is arguably in his best ever form, the 32-year-old will be hoping his season ends in success.
The winner of this award will be announced at a gala ceremony in London on Sunday 19th April.
Previous winners of this award include England internationals Phil Jagielka in 2006 and Rickie Lambert in 2012.
