‘Head of Global Commercial Activities’. It’s a grand title, and it’s the one that Christian Purslow has been bestowed with immediate effect according to Chelsea.

50-year old Purslow spent an eventful 16 months at Anfield. During his time he secured an ÂŁ80million shirt sponsorship deal with Standard Chartered Bank , but more famously, was involved in the sale of the club to it’s current owners.

He joined Liverpool in 2009, after the departure of Rick Parry, with the objective of generating more revenue for the club, although his role changed dramatically when the then unpopular owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks decided to sell up.

The succesful businessman helped the sale process to the Fenway Sports Group led by the current owner, John W Henry, before stepping down. He remained as a non-executive director and special adviser until February 2011.

Chelsea have released a statement: ‘The club has ambitious plans to build the Premier League’s most pioneering global commercial programme,

‘The club believes Mr Purslow has the vision and the leadership qualities to help us achieve these plans.’
