Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has admitted that Chelsea are still better than The Gunners, after their 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge yesterday.

Goals from Eden Hazard and Diego Costa gave The Blues all three points, and ended Arsenal’s unbeaten start to the season, and after the game, Mertesacker admitted that despite performing better than last year, they are still behind their London-rivals.

Arsene Wenger’s men lost 6-0 at The Bridge last season, and Mertesacker believes their defensive display was much better, but they lacked the quality in the final-third.

‘I think we defended quite well. There was always a cover, there was always protection,’ he told Sky in a post-match interview.

‘In the final third we had a couple of decent possibilities to come through, but we missed the last pass or the last touch.

‘We have to admit that they [Chelsea] are still better and we have to learn quickly’.
