Van Gaal praises De Gea performance

Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has praised goalkeeper David De Gea, following a fine performance in United’s narrow 2-1 win over Everton on Sunday.

De Gea made a string of fine saves as United moved into the top four, following goals from Angel Di Maria and Radamal Falcao, either side of Steven Naismith’s equaliser.

The Spanish goalkeeper kept out a Leighton Baines penalty with a strong left hand on the stroke of half time, with De Gea also making superb stops from Leon Osman, and Bryan Oviedo in the second half.

And Van Gaal praised his shot stopper, following the win, when asked if De Gea’s performance seperated the two sides:

“Yes, of course,” said Van Gaal to BT Sport.

Because at the end of the first-half he stopped the penalty, so that was good. He did very well in the last 15 minutes – three shots outside the box is always difficult because a lot of players are in front of him, so his view is not always good but when you stop those kind of shots you are very good. And he saved us.”

“And I said to him it is always good that a goalkeeper has such games. So it shall improve his confidence also.”
