Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has admitted that Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur have had the best transfer window this summer despite the club losing their star-asset Gareth Bale.
Andre Villas-Boas, who used to work for Mourinho during their FC Porto days, was a very busy man this summer recruiting around eight new players for the White Hart Lane club, but the summer ended on a dampner as the club lost Bale to Real Madrid after months of speculation.
The Bale move didn’t come as a shock to anyone this summer, but one move that did shock a lot of people was Mesut Ozil joining Arsenal and another man who has admitted he was surprised about the transfer is Jose Mourinho.
He said: ‘I’m surprised Madrid let Ozil go,’ he said. ‘That’s football.
‘Mesut left a big club but comes to the biggest league in the world to a club with big ambitions. He was happy to do it. I have good memories with him, I wish him well, but not that well because he plays for a direct rival.’
Despite that big signing for Arsenal, Mourinho still believes it was Spurs who had the best summer.
‘Tottenham are the champions by a distance,’ Mourinho said. ‘They bought six, seven, eight international players.’
