David Moyes admits to wanting Leighton Baines

Manchester United manager David Moyes has revealed that he was desperate to land Leighton Baines before the transfer window shut, but the Scot had to settle with just capturing his Everton team-mate Marouane Fellaini.

Talking in an official press conference ahead of the weekend match against Crystal Palace, Moyes admitted that in an ideal world, he would have signed both Baines and Fellaini in the same deal, but he has admitted that The Toffees were reluctant to lose both of their star-assets, no matter what the champions offered.

Despite only being able to capture Fellaini, and despite missing out on several main targets, Moyes also admitted that he is happy with the business done at Old Trafford this transfer period.

‘We wanted to try and get Leighton Baines,’ Moyes explained, ‘We didn’t want to give up on Leighton Baines right up until the last minute. Our aim was to try and keep the two deals together and it was only at the last minute that we decided to split the two deals. We felt that was the best way to do it.

‘Marouane was desperate to join Manchester United. He knew that this was a big opportunity for him and he wasn’t going to let it go amiss.’

‘I feel glad that it is all over. I am very happy with my business,’ the United manger said.
