The Premier League side are reportedly interested in Monaco centre-back Aymen Abdennour
The Tunisia international has been linked with a £15million move to the Stamford Bridge club.
Abdennour, 26, is believed to be Chelsea’s no.1 target, after their latest bid for John Stones was rejected by Everton.
Valencia and Liverpool are also interested in the former Werder Bremen man but Chelsea appear to be frontrunners after already opening negotiations with Monaco about signing Abdennour.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is keen to bolster his defensive options – Abdennour was part of a Monaco defence which conceded 26 goals last season, the best record in the league.
Meanwhile, Stones is fully expected to feature in Everton’s starting line-up against Tottenham this evening with Toffees manager Roberto Martinez continuing to insist the England international is going nowhere.
Pogba reveals contract demands
Chelsea may opt against signing Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba after the France international revealed he wanted £318,000-a-week, making him the club’s highest paid player of all time.
Barcelona made a reported £60million bid earlier this summer but the Serie A club have continued to insist the former Manchester United man is not for sale.
The Old Lady have already seen Arturo Vidal and Andrea Pirlo leave Turin this summer and are desperate not to lose another key midfielder.
Juventus started their title defence with an opening day defeat at home to Udinese, Cyril Théréau’s 78th minute strike proving to be the difference between the two sides.
