Blues adamant they will beat Liverpool to signing
Chelsea are still confident that they can sign Alex Teixeira this window, despite Liverpool formally entering the race and despite the striker suffering a hamstring injury.
Reports broke yesterday that Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre had flown out to Florida in order to hold talks with Shakhtar Donetsk and with Teixeira.
The Ukrainian club are currently in America taking part in a winter training camp, and Ayre flew out to try and secure the transfer.
However, their formal offer of around £25million was rejected and just hours after they made that bid, Teixeira hurt his hamstring, putting his potential transfer away in jeopardy.
Despite the Liverpool interest and despite the injury, Chelsea officials are still feeling confident they can wrap up a deal for the 26-year-old in this window.
Teixeira has scored 26 goals in 25 games so far this season, and that is why Shakhtar are holding out for a big fee for his services.
