Serbian is entering final year of his contract

Chelsea could be set to lose Branislav Ivanovic for free next summer.

The experienced defender has entered the final year of his contract, and with no talks with Chelsea in the pipeline, the Serbian could be set to leave Stamford Bridge for free.

The centre-back, who’s been deployed as a right-back for the past year, has struggled in recent weeks due to the pace of opposition wingers, with Swansea City and Crystal Palace torturing him at Stamford Bridge repeatedly.

Ivanovic has come under-fire from Blues fans for his performances, but they could soon be saying goodbye to him with his contract set to expire in June.

Ivanovic On His Way?

The 31-year-old has been on a 12-month rolling contract due to the club’s policy for players over the age of 30, but as of yet, Jose Mourinho and co. haven’t begun contract talks with the defender.

Ivanovic joined Chelsea back in 2008 from Lokomotiv Moscow and has become a fan favourite in recent times due to his consistent performances.

However, the start to this campaign has seen him come under scrutiny and his long-term future could be away from The Bridge, with clubs from the MLS interested.
