Chelsea defeat was an accident, says Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that his side’s 6-0 loss to Chelsea on Saturday was a complete accident, despite being thrashed twice before by title-rivals.

So far this season, The Gunners have lost 6-3, 5-1 and 6-0 at the homes of their title-rivals, but after the latest battering, Wenger is adamant that the defeat was just an accident and a bump in the road.

Luckily for Wenger and his players, they don’t have long to think about the result as they return to action tonight at the Emirates Stadium to take on Swansea City in a must-win match, and Wenger is confident that there will be no repeat of Saturday’s performance.

‘You have to put that into perspective, we just came out of two convincing results at Bayern Munich and at Tottenham with a very solid defensive performance so you have to think that was an accident,’ said Wenger.

‘How do you deal with the accident? You repair the damage and you go for the next one.

‘An accident has happened, that doesn’t mean that you’re not a good driver. It just means we have played about 40 games this season and it’s not what happened on Saturday that reflects the quality of this team.

‘We have 62 points we earned hard with quality games and that’s what we want to focus on, to get back to that quality.’
