Abramovic wants him to stay

Chelsea are facing a battle to keep assistant coach Steve Holland at Stamford Bridge, with him set to be probed for a job in Gareth Southgate’s England setup.

Southgate was confimed at England boss yesterday, and will be in charge until at least 2020.

But speaking at his official unveiling, Southgate said of Holland: “I think everybody knows how important’s Steve has been to me in terms of the work we’ve done over the last few years and over the last few weeks, there’s no secret in that.

“But at the moment everything is still ongoing.”

It was being reported by the Daily Mail last week that Holland had accepted a role in Southgate’s regime.

Their report claims Chelsea will allow the 46-year-old to continue in his dual role of coaching the England team alongside his club duties.

But Roman Abramovich is set to battle Southgate to keep Holland at Stamford Bridge as the Chelsea owner rates him so highly.
