Chelsea have been installed as favourites to sign Edinson Cavan from Paris Saint Germain.
The Stamford Bridge club are ahead of Manchester Unite, Arsenal and Liverpool at the moment.
The former Napoli man has recently sparked mass transfer speculation after revealing he would be willing to return to the Italian club some day, and that his future was ‘unpredictable’.
“Would I go back to Italy? Sure,” the 28-year-old told Corriere Del Mezzogiorno. “For us players the future is unpredictable”.
Cavani is currently contracted to the Parisian club until June 2018, so Laurent Blanc’s team have no obligation to sell.
But with Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea all reportedly keeping tabs on the striker in the summer, they may be tempted to cash in on the Uruguayan before his stock falls.
Betway’s Alan Alger has said that it is unlikely any movement will happen until next summer however.
“Reports have suggested that Edinson Cavani could be departing Paris and we think, if he does leave, Chelsea will be the first to try and secure his services.
“It’s unlikely that PSG will let him go in January, though, and we expect to still be trading this market in the summer.
“Only a small number of clubs can afford to trigger the Uruguayan’s £54m release clause and, although his intentions are to return to Napoli at some point, they probably haven’t got the wedge just yet.”
