Chelsea have been informed that they can go ahead in the pursuit to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, Blaise Matuidi – according to reports in France.

Despite him being a regular starter in the French title-holders side, the Parisian outfit are resigned to losing him in the next transfer window.

The French international has made it known to officials, as well as manager Laurent Blanc, that he wants a new challenge, away from the Parc des Prices.

Chelsea are eyeing the 28-year-old as a replacement for John Obi-Mikel, who has dropped down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

Manager Jose Mourinho may have to wait until next summer to make his move, as Matuidi is unlikely to make the move away from Paris, with the European Championships held in France next summer.

Matuidi, who has won 37 caps from France, signed from fellow Ligue 1 side, St Etienne in 2011 – is contracted to PSG until 2018.
