Arsenal distance themselves from Real Madrid striker

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has ruled out making a move for Real Madrid star Karim Benzema.

The Frenchman was strongly linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium throughout the summer, but opted to stay put in Spain at the Bernabeu, leaving the Gunners with just two recognised strikers.

Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott are the two main forwards at Arsenal, with Danny Welbeck still sidelined through injury, but Wenger has once again insisted that he doesn’t need to sign a striker.

Wenger was asked about Benzema once again ahead of the January transfer window, and he has already distanced himself from a move by saying he doesn’t need the Madrid star.

‘We Have Giroud’

“I think he’s in that league because he plays for one of the best clubs in Europe and he scores goals,” Wenger said.

“If you look at the number of games and the number of goals, you have to give him credit.

“He’s not only a goalscorer, he’s a guy who puts work in for the team. I think he’s among the best strikers in Europe.”
