West Ham United beat Blues 2-1 at Upton Park

Chelsea’s miserable season has continued after suffering yet another loss in the Premier League which leaves them 15th in the league after 10-games.

The Blues went into the game knowing they must start picking up victories if they ever want to catch league-leaders Manchester City and the rest of the pack, but it was yet another forgettable day for Jose Mourinho and his team.

Things started badly for the visitors and after 17 minutes it was 1-0 to Slaven Bilic‘s men when Mauro Zárate thundered home past Asmir Begovic after the ball fell to him from a corner.

The half ended on a sour note when Nemanja Matic saw red for a second-bookable offence, which also then lead to a member of Mourinho‘s coaching staff being dismissed from the touchline.

With the second half set to kick-off, Mourinho’s absence raised eyebrows before it was later confirmed that the Portuguese had also been sent his marching orders to the stands.

Early reports have suggested that he was sent to the stands after trying to get into the referee’s changing room at half-time.

Despite going down to 10-men, Chelsea were back in the game after 56-minutes when Gary Cahill scored, but there was to be another sting in the tail for the Premier League champions.

11-minutes from time, Andy Carroll headered home to give the Hammers all three points.

The win puts West Ham second in the table for now on 20 points, while Chelsea sit 15th on just 11.

Match Reaction

West Ham striker Andy Carroll: “It was a tough game but we knew that anyway. We’ve had some great wins but that’s got to be one of the best. It was a great strike by Mauro Zarate for the opener. We went for the win and kept on pushing and got it.

“It was a great ball in for my goal and I read where it would be – I’ve been waiting for one of them for a while. This (near the top of the table) is where we belong.”
