Chinese defender confirms he’s received an offer from Blues

Chelsea have made a shock loan offer for Guangzhou Evergrande defender Zhang Linpeng, according to reports.

The Blues are in the market for a new defender, despite already signing Baba Rahman from Augsburg, and with Everton playing hardball over John Stones, Jose Mourinho has been forced to turn his attentions elsewhere.

Chelsea have already had two formal bids turned down for Stones, and could see their third bid of around £37million declined as well, despite the centre-back handing in a formal transfer request.

If the Premier League champions can’t secure the signing of Stones before transfer deadline day on Tuesday, they will hope to get the loan deal for Linpeng over the line.

According to reports, Chelsea sent out a contract to the 26-year-old yesterday, and he has confirmed that he is honoured to receive an offer from such an illustrious club.

Player Confirms Offer

“I’m very happy and very excited to finally have this formal invitation,” Chinese newspaper Titan quoted Zhang as saying.

“I’ve worked hard and waited these five-six years for my dream of playing overseas, and finally have recognition from the English Premier League.”

With the two clubs working towards a deal, it could be finalised before Tuesday’s deadline, however, due to Linpeng coming from outside of Europe, the work permit situation could be a bit trickier, and he has admitted that he knows the process could be a difficult one.

“Although I’m unable to play Premier League directly, I believe (Chelsea) will have the most professional arrangements regarding my permit,” Zhang added.

“I have no worries at all about the negotiations.”
