Jose Mourinho has said that he wants Fernando Torres to stay at Stamford Bridge and show everyone what he is really made of.
Chelsea paid Liverpool £50m for the successful striker. He scored 65 goals in 102 games for Liverpool but the impressive strike rate has not continued at Chelsea. In 82 appearances Torres has only managed to score 15 times and that form has given him lots of criticism.
Following Mourinho’s arrival at Chelsea a lot of people predicted it would be the end of Torres playing for the Blues but the manager himself has said otherwise.
“I don’t know if it’s confidence. I feel the guy is highly motivated, he works very hard. Some of the work we do with the team in terms of attack suits his qualities. So let’s see what happens. We’re here to support him.
“Usually when he is clear he scores – but he’s missed. We know that this is Torres’ game.
“We want the team not to learn how to play with him, but to improve how to play with him. He is working hard in training, we are happy with him.”
This, however, does not keep him from trying to sign Manchester United star Wayne Rooney and sees him as his main target for the summer.
