After the last 16 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain last night, Chelsea are expected to lose around £45million.

The Champions League brings with it much financial benefits, and if a team ends up in the latter stages of the European competition, this bring riches up to around £100m for the club.

However, Chelsea won’t see themselves in the Champions League next season due to their horrendous performances seeing them only in mid-table in the Premier League. The only way for the blues to see themselves in the competition next year was to win it this year.

The London club were knocked out 4-2 on aggregate last night after a 2-1 loss in each leg- The most recent leg saw Goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Adrien Rabiot giving PSG a 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge.

When matchday income and broadcast revenues are factored in, the club stands to lose around £45m next term alone, as the are out of the Champions League for at least next season.
