Costa could leave Chelsea for Atletico Madrid with the transfer window in Spain closing at midnight tonight

Chelsea are said to be holding out for a ÂŁ50m deal from Atletico Madrid for unwanted Blues striker Diego Costa, as talks still continue between the two clubs today.

But, Atletico have only offered up ÂŁ45m so far, however, they have until midnight tonight before the Spanish transfer window closes, and Chelsea are expecting an improved bid.

It’s been reported that Atletico are in no rush to push the deal through and could be prepared to wait until January, according to sources in Spain.

The Spanish club cannot register any new players until then anyway because of a Fifa ban – but they can buy them.

Atletico will be keen to get the deal done even earlier than the midnight deadline, with Champions League group-stage squads needing to be in by 11pm with UEFA.
