Chelsea set to lose Courtois appeal

Belgium was sent off against Swansea City on Saturday

Chelsea are expected to lose their appeal to overturn the red card that Thibaut Courtois received on Saturday against Swansea City.

The number-one was dismissed after he brought down Bafetimbi Gomis just inside the box, leaving the striker flat-out and denying a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Despite Gary Cahill‘s efforts to track back, the match-day official believed Courtois was the last man and did deny a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Appeal To Be Rejected

The 23-year-old will miss the massive game against Manchester City on Sunday if the appeal is rejected, and after lodging an appeal yesterday, it’s likely The Blues will hear back today from the panel.

However, early reports are indicating that the FA are happy with the decision made by Michael Oliver and won’t be overturning the decision.

With the appeal set to be rejected, Asmir Begovic will start against City on Sunday at the Etihad Stadium.
