Chelsea are set to sign AS Roma defender Mehdi Benatia this week after reportedly agreeing a deal with the Italian side.
The Blues have been interested in the Moroccan centre-back, and were ready to battle with rivals Manchester United in order to sign the 27-year-old, who was reportedly worth nearly £50million.
In a recent interview, the Roma manager, Rudi Garcia, was quotes as saying Benatia would cost any club roughly £50m, but it appears they have decided to agree a fee with Chelsea roughly around £30m, a massive £20m gap from their original price-tag.
According to reports, The Blues are confident that they can wrap up the deal before the end of the week, and are hopeful that he can be registered before their first game of the season on Monday night, away at newly-promoted, Burnley.
