Representative of Nigerian has confirmed Blues rejected offer

Chelsea have rejected an offer from Shanghai SIPG for enforcing-midfielder John Obi Mikel, according to one of the Nigerian’s representatives.

The holding-midfielder has been strongly linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge due to the lack of first-team opportunities, but the Blues are not prepared to let him go this month.

Mikel is behind the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Nemanja Matic and Ramires in West London, but with the latter himself closing in on a move to China, Guus Hiddink and co. are desperate to keep hold of Mikel.

Shanghai SIPG, who are coached by former-England manager Sven Goran-Eriksson, are the team reportedly close to signing Ramires, but according to one of Mikel’s representatives, they also wanted to sign him.

It’s reported that Shanghai are ready to offer ÂŁ6million for the midfielder, and would also offer him a contract worth ÂŁ60k-a-week.

However, as confirmed by a member of Mikel’s team, Chelsea have rejected their approaches.

Chelsea Reject Offer

A representative of Mikel’s told Allnigeriasoccer.com: “Yes, it is true that Shanghai SIPG made a bid for Mikel.

“But Chelsea say he is not for sale and want him to see out his contract.

“He has to obey Chelsea but plans to hold further talks with them at the end of the season.”

Mikel has been with Chelsea for a decade now and has made 347 appearances for them.
