Napoli turn down offer from Premier League outfit

Arsenal have had a formal bid turned down by Napoli for midfield-star Jorginho.

The Gunners have been heavily scouting the midfielder, and spent all of 2015 monitoring his situation in Italy only to be dealt a blow when he decided to pen a new two-year deal with the Serie A side.

Despite the midfielder penning a new deal, Arsene Wenger is still keen on signing him and has reportedly tabled an offer for the Brazilian in the hope that he can convince Napoli to sell.

Jorginho isn’t the only midfielder that’s been on Arsenal‘s radar as they’ve already landed Mohamed Elneny from FC Basel, but with the likes of Mathieu Flamini, Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky all set to leave the Emirates at the end of the season, Wenger is ready to mix-up his midfield.

It’s not reported how much Arsenal offered Napoli, but it wasn’t enough for the Italian side to accept, especially with the midfielder being under contract until 2020.

Jorginho Happy in Italy

To deal a further blow to the Gunners, Jorginho’s agent has confirmed his client is happy in Italy.

“In June we had offers to leave, but (sporting director Cristiano) Giuntoli and (coach Maurizio) Sarri immediately put their trust in him,” Joao Santos said.

“The best gift Jorginho can give the coach is to play at his peak and repay that trust.

“Napoli for life? Napoli have a similar philosophy to Barcelona, buy players at around 21 and improve them so you can reap the rewards five years down the line.”
