The 31-year-old’s contract offer is abiding by Chelsea’s policy of only renewing player’s contracts over the age of 30 by one year.

Captain John Terry is set to receive a new deal of similar quality in the coming weeks.

Ivanovic has dismissed the use of an agent and will be holding negotiations independently.

The Serbian full-back joined Chelsea from Lokomotic Moscow in 2008 for a fee of just ÂŁ9million. Ivanovic hasn’t been shy in front of goal either and has netted six goals so far this season.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho described Ivanovic as one of the greatest signings the club has ever made, and labelled him as “a competitive animal with a big heart”.

Despite the Serb’s contract being due to expire at the end of the current season, it is believed Ivanovic will soon put pen to paper on a new deal at Stamford Bridge.
