Manchester City enter Sterling race

Manchester City are plotting a £30 million transfer bid to sign Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Premier League title holders have made Sterling their top priority for the summer window, as they look to shake off interest from Arsenal and Chelsea.

Sterling, aged 20, has already snubbed a new £100,000 a-week contract offer from Liverpool, shelving his contract negotiations with Brendan Rodgers until the summer, with several top European sides also keeping a close eye on the current events at Anfield.

The England-intentional has been at the centre of controversies in recent days, having been caught smoking a shisha pipe, and inhaling laughing gas.

But the latest events off the pitch from Sterling haven’t put City off any potential deal, with the Etihad Stadium outfit set to offload several senior members of their squad, following a poor Premier league campaign.

Exodus at Etihad

Samir Nasri, Bacary Sagna, Edin Dzeko, Yaya Toure and Jesus Navas could all be on their way out of City, in order to fund the £30 million deal.

Following the interest from the Citizens, Liverpool’s chief executive, Ian Ayre, revealed that the Reds have no plans to sell the troubled youngster.

“Raheem’s agent has asked that we park all discussions regards his future until the summer. We respect that.

“Raheem is a Liverpool player and has two years left on his contract.

“We expect Raheem Sterling to be here for a long time.”
