Leicester City manager Claude Puel has backed Ben Chilwell to be the future of the club.

Chilwell recently extended his association at the King Power stadium by putting pen to paper to a brand new contract after cementing his position as the preferred choice left back under Puel’s guidance.

Christian Fuchs had been selected on the left side of the defence until this season but Puel’s decision to take his chance with the 21 year old has pushed the Austrian international further down the pecking order.

The England international has played every minute of the ongoing season and his impressive display for his club also earned him his first cap for the Three Lions side.

Puel admits it was a tough call to drop Fuchs from the starting lineup but Chilwell has been very promising.

“It was a difficult choice last season to put in Chilly in place of Christian Fuchs.

“Christian is very good player for the team. Experienced player, different capabilities but good attributes also.

“We developed Chilly because I think he is the future for the club. He has had also more game time last season to continue to improve.

“I have a lot of respect with Christian, all the time he is the first in training pitches, he worked very well and I am happy, but I had to take a decision.

“Both can work very well with different attributes. There is competition between them but I had to take a shot.”
