Mark Schwarzer’s association with Chelsea has been brought to an end after the veteran Australian goalkeeper signed an 18-month deal with Leicester City.

Speaking to his new club, Schwarzer cited Nigel Pearson as part of the King Power Stadium’s appeal. He commented, “The opportunity to work with Nigel Pearson, who I played with back at Middlesborough, and to be more involved and play more football.

“At Chelsea I didn’t play a lot and the last six month has been the toughest part when I haven’t been involved at all at times”

Mourinho bade a fond farewell to his former back up ‘keeper, praising the former Fulham man’s professionalism and attitude, “As a goalkeeper, when we needed (Schwarzer), he was there for us, and as a person and a professional he was an amazing guy in our group.”

What remains to be seen is whether Schwarzer will be playing in the Premier League or the Championship come this time next year.
