Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has told Michy Batshuayi what he need to do to win his heart at Chelsea and how to get a starting role over Alvaro Morata.
With Batshuayi having started only two times this season in the Premier League and once in the Champions League, it’s hard to say he has been an important player for the Blues, but his numbers have been impressive. Batshuayi has scored seven goals for the Blues this season in 520 minutes for the club this season but has cut a peripheral figure at the club, falling behind other forwards.
Conte has a word of advise for Batshuayi though, maintaining the striker will need to convince him to become the first choice at Chelsea.
“He has to show me that he’s better than Morata, or than Hazard. It’s very simple. But don’t forget that Michy, this season, is playing more than last season. Last season he didn’t play. He didn’t play and I think this season, if you consider his injury for a month, he had his chance.
I’m happy with his behaviour and his commitment. But I have to make the best decision for the team. Otherwise, when we lose, you say to me: ‘You are in trouble because you lost’, not because I took this decision or that one.
