Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney scored at Selhurst Park as Manchester United beat Crystal Palace 2-0 as they moved level on points Everton. Van Persie scored a penalty on the hour mark after Patrice Evra was brought down by Patrice Evra, before Wayne Rooney celebrated the signing of his new contract by finishing a wonderful volley from just inside the penalty box.
David Moyes spoke to BBC Sport after the game, “I thought Palace were very strong, but we thouroughly deserved to win. Our play was really good throughout. We kept the ball and made some great oppertunities to score.”
“I was never in doubt that Robin would miss his penalty. This is why they are top players, they can hold their nerve.”
The big news for United this week was that Wayne Rooney signed a new £300,000 per week deal, which David Moyes also talked about in his interview.
“Wayne Rooney is a top, top player right now. It is great news (the new contract). It is a great signing for us. To try and buy a player like Rooney is going to cost you a lot of money or they are not available. We never had any intention of letting him go. He has been great since day one.
United remain 7th in the league, but go level on points with Everton after they lost 1-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge earlier in the weekend’s fixtures.
