Danny Welbeck: ‘I used to dream about playing for Arsenal’

New Arsenal signing Danny Welbeck has risked annoying Manchester United fans by revealing that he used to dream about playing for The Gunners, despite coming through the United youth academy.

The England international completed a £16million move from United to Arsenal on transfer deadline day, after The Red Devils secured a loan-deal with Radamel Falcao from AS Monaco, and in Welbeck’s first interview with Arsenal, he admitted that the move is a dream come true.

The 23-year-old failed to break into United’s first-team over the years due to serious competition with team-mates, and despite Sir Alex Ferguson highly-rating the Englishman, David Moyes and Louis Van Gaal struggled to fit him into their team.

In his first interview at Arsenal, Welbeck had this to say: ‘It’s exciting times for me. It’s great to be a part of this club and it’s a team that I’ve always watched in the Premier League.

‘I’ve envisaged myself playing in this team before. For it to finally happen is very exciting.

‘I’ve been at United ever since I was a little boy and I had a great time there. I just think this is the next stage of my development – to come to Arsenal, to really show people what I can do as a footballer and hopefully get to the place where I want to be.’
