Former goalkeeper David James, has declared himself officially bankrupt.

Despite earning roughly around ÂŁ20million during his professional playing days, James declared bankruptcy earlier this week and has had it officially ruled after he filed a debtor’s petition at Hertford County Court last week.

The former shot-stopper enjoyed successful spells at; Liverpool, Manchester City, West Ham United, Aston Villa and Portsmouth, and also represented his country, England, 53 times.

Throughout his career, he won the League Cup with Liverpool back in 1995, and then more recently won the FA Cup with Pompey back in 2008, but since then, he has seen all his earnings vanish due to his expensive divorce from his wife.

According to reports, James built up serious debts after his divorce back in 2005, and once the pair went through legalities with their divorce, James was left with barely nothing.

Despite going bankrupt, the ‘keeper makes punditry appearances for BT Sport, and has featured frequently throughout this season.
