De Gea: Future at United, at least for now

Speculation that Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea will move to Real Madrid has increased.

The Spanish international is yet to sign a new deal at Old Trafford, after a dispute over a release clause that him and his agent want in place.

The goalkeeper only has 18 months left on his latest United contract. The more time that runs down on his current deal, the cheaper the offer Madrid can make to United.

This is good news for Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti, who wants De Gea for the cheapest price possible.

However, the Spaniard’s agent, Jorge Mendes, insists De Gea is currently happy in Manchester.

He said: “He has one year left on his contract and I think that he will stay in Manchester, the player will decide, but he’s happy there, at the moment.”

The 24-year old has made 28 appearances in all competitions this campaign.
