AC Milan midfielder Nigel de Jong has admitted that he is ‘proud’ of the interest he recieved from Manchester United this summer.
The former Man City star was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, and speculation intensified as his former Dutch boss Louis van Gaal took over at United as manager.
Those reports claimed that van Gaal was preparing a £10m bid for the Dutchman, who was also linked with a return to Holland with Dutch champions Ajax.
The Dutch midfielder said: “If many people like him respect me and recognise what I am doing, then I can only be proud.”
