AC Milan central midfielder Nigel De Jong has hinted at a move to Manchester United, according to the Daily Express.

The versatile midfielder, who joined the Italian Serie A side from Manchester City in 2012, has been linked in previous weeks with a reunion with Louis Van Gaal on the Red side of the City.

De Jong has been in and out the squad during his spell at the San Siro, having started his career at Ajax Amsterdam, before a move to Bundesliga club Hamburg, before spending three years at Manchester City, helping the Blues to a first Premier League title in the May of 2012.

And the Dutch international stated that he is open to continuing his career abroad.

“Expectations are very high when you go back to an old side. I need to stay careful and see how I feel. Ajax tried to sign me in the summer but I said ‘no’.

“I’m 29 years old and in the best phase of my career. I feel mentally and physically stronger than ever.

“It’s too early for a return to Holland. I want to play overseas for as long as possible.”
