Darren Bent has said that Jermain Defoe is set to give Rangers edge in the Scottish Premiership.

The veteran striker has joined the Gers on loan from Bournemouth until the end of the season.

Former England striker Darren Bent is of the opinion that Jermain Defoe will give Rangers an edge over the opponents in the Scottish Premiership. The veteran striker has joined the Glasgow giants on loan from Bournemouth which will see him ply his trade at the Ibrox until the end of the season.

Speaking about the transfer, Bent said, “I think him going to Rangers gives them the edge.”

The former England star added, “He’ll be something they’ve not seen for a long time, probably since Marco Negri. He’s someone who can score goals. I know Jermain and he looks after himself. The main thing is he’s in there, he’s 36 and he’s hungry. Even though he’s in the twilight of his career, he’ll have a point to prove. In his mindset, he’ll want to score goals for Rangers if there’s a chance of him getting back in the England squad.”

Rangers, managed by former Liverpool ace and Defoe’s former England teammate Steven Gerrard, have performed well this season and are currently at the second place in the league table, looking to topple the reigning champions Celtic and win the SPFL.
