Rangers Winning Scottish Premiership Would Be Huge: Barnes

John Barnes has said that Rangers winning Scottish Premiership title would be bigger than Celtic winning trebles.

The Gers defeated the Hoops in their last meeting at Ibrox by 1-0 and are currently placed at the second position on the league table right behind Celtic.

Former Celtic manager John Barnes has insisted it would be a bigger achievement if Rangers win the Scottish Premiership title than Celtic winning the treble. The Gers defeated the Hoops in the last match in the Scottish Premiership at Ibrox as Ryan Jack scored the only goal of the match to get his side over the line against their arch-rivals. Steven Gerrard’s men are currently placed at the second position in the league table with Celtic being at the number one position.

Barnes said, “From where Rangers were, it takes three or four years back in the SPFL to be competing with Celtic.”

He added, “Just because they got in the SPFL and they’re Rangers, doesn’t automatically mean they will compete because Celtic have better players and pay better wages. Over the last few years Rangers have improved, and now they’re improving even more. So for them to win it this year or next year, it would be a better achievement than the leagues Celtic have won.”

Rangers are set to face Kilmarnock and Livingston away from home in the Premiership next up as they look to peep Celtic to the top of the table.
