Despite interest from Manchester United and Arsenal, Southampton are looking to step-in and sign defender Bruno Martins Indi.

After a solid World Cup in which he reached the semi-finals with the Netherlands, Martins Indi was the subject of a potential big move in the summer. The centre-half was tipped to join his international boss, Louis van Gaal, to pasteurs new at Manchester United.

However, he joined F.C Porto, where so far this season he has made just 14 appearances in the Primeira Liga scoring two goals.

With the January transfer window open, United and Arsenal are hoping to make Martins Indi a part of their squad. Both sides defensive problems have been highlighted this season with Arsenal conceding soft goals and United having several injuries in their back-line.

Although, it looks as if the 22-year old will snub his former boss van Gaal and a move to Old Trafford. Instead he looks as if he will join another one of his former boss’ Ronald Koeman.

Koeman, who is working wonders with Southampton, coached Martins Indi for three years at Feyenoord. The current saints manager made Martins Indi a regular which effectively helped him nail down a place for the dutch national side.

Their time together in Rotterdam looks to be enough to tempt the Porto man away from Estadio do Dragao and land him at St. Mary’s.

During his playing time at Feyenoord, Martins Indi made 102 Eredivisie appearances, scoring five goals.
