Everton manager Roberto Martinez has hit out at Chelsea striker Diego Costa, claiming he needs to learn some respect.

The Spaniard, who struck twice in the 6-3 thriller from Goodison Park, was involved in two feisty encounters throughout the game, once with Seamus Coleman and then again with Tim Howard.

Costa and Coleman first came to blows when a throw-in was about to be taken, and due to Costa’s actions, he went into the booking.

It was then Howard who Costa irritated when he celebrated a Chelsea goal in the face of Coleman, which sparked a furious response from the Toffees’ goalkeeper.

The American ran up to the striker and confronted him face-to-face, before team-mates had to pull the duo apart.

Costa avoided a second-yellow for his actions, but Howard did go into the book for his retaliation.

After the game, Martinez admitted that some foreign players need to learn respect when involved with the English game.

“There are certain foreign players who come to the Premier League who need to understand the ethics and the culture.”

“The behaviour in the British game is unique.

“The last thing you want to see is disrespect from a player to another player and I am sure he will learn that very quickly.

“There is a real professionalism and respect in the league so you can understand why the players weren’t happy with that, in the same way as trying to buy free-kicks with the way he plays.”
