Atletico Madrid central defender Diego Godin has ruled out a move to England.

The 28-year-old was a reported target for both Manchester United and Chelsea, both of whom were plotting bids for him in the January transfer window.

But the Uruguay international has revealed that he plans to remain at the La Liga title holders for many years to come, in what is a bitter blow to his Premier League suitors.

Having signed from fellow La Liga side Villarreal in 2010, the Altleti captain see’s his future firmly in the Spanish capital.

“At this point, I feel that I’m in the best time of my career and I still see my retirement very far. stated Godin.

“I would like to stay many years here [at Atletico Madrid].

“But it is true that I also have an attraction from my country and at any point in the future I would like to return to Uruguay, to respond to the love they have showed me during this years.

“But just the time will say. It is difficult to know where I will be playing in as many years.”
