Atletico Madrid manager, Diego Simeone has been foretold to be with the side ‘for many years’ by club president amid links to Inter Milan.
The Argentine coach is constantly being tied to the managerial post of Inter Milan as the latter struggles to hold ground against the best in the Serie A. However, Atletico Madrid president, Enrique Cerezo firmly believes Diego Simeone is not going anywhere anytime soon. Speaking to AS, Cerezo was quoted – “In the club, we are convinced that Cholo is the best coach that exists for Atletico Madrid and I am confident that he will continue with us for many more years.”
It might be astonishing to believe but Simeone is currently the longest-serving manager in the history of the La Liga. He joined the Rojiblancos from Racing Club in 2011 and even signed a contract extension last summer, extending his stay till the 2019/20 season.
So far, Simeone has delivered seven major honours including two Europa League trophies, two Super Cups and the 2013/14 La Liga title, which was the club’s first in 18 years. He has kept the club competitive against Spain and Europe’s two giants, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Due to his impressive work in the Spanish capital rumours of his switch to the San Siro is starting to gain momentum in recent times. Simeone is already accustomed to Inter, having spent two seasons of his playing days with them.
Earlier this month, Simeone even revealed that at some point he would like to return to Inter as a coach.
