Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot feels he is ready to make a start for the senior side this season. United paid Porto £19m as they acquired the service of the Portuguese right back.

The 19 year old hasn’t featured this season but he made his first appearance in a United shirt when he was included in the Red Devils U-23’s starting lineup to face Stoke City last week. He had a solid 78minutes under his belt as Jose Mourinho watched him from the stands.

Dalot is expected to be Antonio Valencia’s understudy for this season . The Ecuadorian international just turned 33 and with a number of fixtures lining up ahead Mourinho would definitely seek the service of Dalot who is eager to make his presence felt at the Old Trafford.

Dalot insisted he is ready for the challenge. “I kept my mind always thinking just step by step. I’m one more step closer to where I want to be because I want to play.

“I’m very happy. My body is responding well. I’m happy and I’m looking forward to playing more and more.

“The team have helped me a lot during this recovery time. We are together, we are strong and I can’t wait to start.

“I was looking forward to playing in this amazing stadium and I’m looking forward to playing here again.”
