Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus wants Sergio Aguero to stay at the Etihad.
Since arriving at City, Gabriel Jesus has impressed the fans and pundits with his performances.
So much so, that much speculation was made regarding the possibility of him replacing star striker Sergio Aguero as Pep Guardiolas’ preferred choice up front.
Many fans felt that Guardiola was slowly working toward cementing Jesus as the main man up front, whilst slowly phasing Aguero out to a lesser role – or possibly even preparing him for the exit door.
Gabriel Jesus however has claimed he would much prefer for Aguero to remain at City, even if it does mean more stiff competition for a spot in the starting 11.
“Sergio is a very important player and essential to the club.
“Since the first time he arrived until now, he’s been a real star – the starting forward of the team.
“He has helped this club a lot and has had an amazing career here, so all the fans and all of us want him to stay at Manchester City.
“Since I met him I realised he is a really nice guy. We are all aware about his skills as a player.
“I’m very happy to see he is a good person, humble, charismatic – that’s very important for me as well.
“He became an idol because of his success here at Manchester City – he totally deserves it.”
It is refreshing to see a player support one of the men he is competing with, and crediting him so much – rather than doing all that he can to take the spot from the more experienced man.
It remains to be seen if City will keep hold of Aguero, and in what capacity he will contribute to the club next season.
It is possible that Guardiola may try and find a way to play the two together, in a system that still fits the rest of the squad, but only time will tell.
