Imagine being friends with Cristiano Ronaldo and hating him as well!
Paulo Dybala has done that. The two superstars play for Juventus and are extremely friendly with each other.
However, prior to that Dybala only knew of Ronaldo as his fellow Argentinians – a rival of their icon Lionel Messi.
Having played together for the last 14 months, Ronaldo has won over Dybala.
In an interview with the Argentine Football Association, he said: “I said to him, ‘Cristiano, in Argentina, we hate you a bit because of your figure, because of how you are, of how you walk’.
“‘The truth is that you’ve surprised me because I’ve found you to be different.’”
The change is indeed honest as the two forwards score and celebrate together. Indeed they have a combined tally of 28 goals this season.
Dybala has cleared out his air this time well after getting into hot waters last year after he spoke about Messi. He said that the two players play in similar positions and so it is difficult for them to play together which some took as a critical analysis of Lionel Messi.
He added: “I’ve never intended to criticise a teammate, I simply wanted to improve something that was happening.
“I spoke about it with Leo because we’re both very similar tactically.
“I didn’t have many minutes at the World Cup or the Copa America but, at the same time, I always respected the decisions of the coaches because Argentina is very prestigious.”
